Christianity Uses Scapegoating: Satan

Persuading with the help of scapegoats - there was a period of time there where it seemed like every single car i' d see had a" united we stand" bumper sticker. After all, what happens if we don' t stand united? They were implying that standing together was our only salvation.


We fall divided. - if we were to buy into the idea at the center of the political platform of defeating terrorists by standing united and spreading our democracy everywhere, will this bumper sticker' s admonition keep us safe? So is this true? If we blindly agree with all the presuppositions will we all be okay? Christianity uses scapegoating: Satan. With scapegoating, the best way to get us all on board - to unite - is to have a common enemy, a Satan, a boogie man, Saddam Hussein or a terrorist to rage against. The government uses scapegoating: 1950' s= Commies. 2000' s= Terrorists.


The division of church and state was causing difficulty in the lives of the citizens, so instead of addressing that, women were burned at the stake because, these witches were, after all the cause of all the problems. - most recently we have scooter libby. (though the distinction has been made that he' s more of a" fall guy" than a" scapegoat" because scapegoat implies using an innocent to pin the blame on while fall guy' s usually share the blame. ) scapegoating was super popular in massachusetts during the salem witch trials. Some good examples of religious scapegoating include Adam blaming Eve, Eve blaming the serpent. Mormons blame the baptists for the same. The Baptists blame the Mormons for leading people astray. Christians blame Satan.


Satan has single - handedly maintained Christianity. - and if you think about it, there, without satan' s no need to save people. I want to stress here that I am not debating the existence of Satan. I am simply showing how scapegoating can and has been used over the years. I have no intention or interest in converting or recruiting anybody to my spiritual, religious or political beliefs. There are multiple layers of scapegoating at play currently in politics. We saw scapegoating rise to the status of national phenomenon during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.


Focusing on gay marriage and stem cell research as scapegoats diverts attention from the body count in Iraq. - it even got a new name: the blame game. The governor blamed the president and the mayor. The mayor blamed the governor and the president. The president congratulated his FEMA appointee and suggested things were going swell until he realized no one was buying it and then proceeded to blame the governor and the mayor. People ultimately want to believe that their problems or failures are the result of something outside themselves.


Some folks in the government even suggested that no one was to blame, it was a natural disaster. - scapegoating can be used in business or sales to suggest your client' s former agent or adviser lacked the knowledge required to get you in the right house, or get you earning as much as you should have earned. To use this ethically, instead of making the scapegoat a person or group, make it an opposing force such as an idea, philosophy or an unfortunate circumstance.

Persuasion Is Play

Ways to learn persuasion - one of my students recently asked me, 'kenrick, how do you keep track of all of these persuasion strategies? I can' t even remember to use the unconscious hello. . .how can I remember all of them? ' I responded to my student by saying, 'When you learn a new language, are you fluent in a week? ' When you learn a new instrument, can you play Rachmaninoff after a couple of lessons? Over the last few years we' ve learned dozens and dozens of them and each call we have you teach us a new technique.


The subject of persuasion is just as rich as either of these examples. - but the field fo persuasion is ever expanding with amazing breakthroughs happening all the time. The difference is, once you' ve learned a new language, you know the language( provided you practice it) . World class persuasion requires you to master the basics. Simple. And how do you master the basics when you are trying to learn something?


Practice. - and more practice. 'learning' has been traditionally broken down into five different categories: imprinting, associative learning, habituation, observational learning and play. Practice. The first learning phase is called imprinting and is closely associated with young animals and children. For persuasion purposes, imprinting doesn' t have a lot that we can utilize, but the brain state resembles very closely the brain state we achieve through the use of our light and sound machines. It is the process by which babies learn from their parents. An example of habitual learning is when an animal first responds to a stimulus, but if it is neither rewarding nor harmful then eventually, the response diminishes.


In persuasion the two types of learning that we most often utilize are observational learning and play. - this kind of learning rests mainly in the other - than - conscious. With observational learning, we observe and repeat. It' s that simple. Observe and repeat. So when my student asks about the' unconscious hello' , I say, observe and repeat.


I call the homework at the end of each call' home play' because I love the concept of play and playfulness as a way to enjoy our learning and enhance our experience of not only persuasion, but of life in general. - lastly, play. We' re all successful in our fields. And yet, I can' t help thinking that part of what we do when we meet for our quarterly meetings is quite playful. Many of us have high pressure work environments. Role playing, even the occasional, camaraderie game. Back to my frustrated student' s question.


Some play is unrestrained and has no outcome, but our play has a clearly defined goal, as does our work. - persuasion is play. Persuasion is habitual. Persuasion is observation. Persuasion is repetition and emulation and commitment and intention. And it all comes in time with persistence.

Digital Camera Images Are Stored Electronically Rather Than On Film

The early digital camera - a digital camera is basically a digital device that enables images to be captured. This process involves converting light into electrical charges, and then translating this back into the image that was seen through the digital camera LCD. However, the patent revealed a more analog based design rather than a digital camera, and there is no record of whether the camera was actually created.


A pioneer in the history of digital camera was Steve Sasson, an engineer at Kodak. - what the patent does show, is that interest, however towards a digital camera was growing with the idea that the need for film could be removed. Digital images were of the moon were being transmitted via satellite by NASA, using a mosaic photo sensor, and he saw the possibility of a digital camera for commercial use. Central to this early concept of the digital camera, and still used by digital cameras today, is the Charged Coupled Device. Kodak had developed a camera that developed picture from light, but it was never manufactured for the public. It was more a freeze frame video camera but it greatly influenced people` s attitude to the recorded image. It still used more television technology but was the first hand held with the general idea of digital camera usage.


It made public the possibility of a camera that stored images using techniques other than film. - cameras that could transmit images via satellite became popular, but were used by the media only due to the expense incurred. The first camera for general use with a computer was the Apple Quicktake 100 camera which appeared in198In 1986 the Canon RC - 701 was used for coverage of the Olympics, with quality images printed in the newspaper. The possibilities were becoming apparent and images were used for news coverage. This showed the possible quality, and the desire for the digital camera was born. In 1987 accessories for storing, manipulating, printing, transmitting, and recording digital images came onto the market, with the Fuji DS - P1 arriving in 198This is arguably the first true digital camera as recognised today, boasting a 16MB memory card. The first mega pixel sensor was invented in 198It contained 4 million pixels and was suitable for a digital camera image measuring 5x7 inches.
